ENSEMBLES
Alex Kelly's orchestral performances include seasons with
Wichita Symphony, the
Eugene Symphony, the
Oregon Mozart
Players, the
Haddonfield Symphony, and the
Golden Gate Opera
Orchestra, the
University of Oregon Symphony, the Wichita
State University Symphony, the
Philadelphia Youth Orchestra,
the Wichita Youth Orchestra, and the
Kansas "State" Orchestra. Alex was also one of the founding members of
The Hundredth
Monkey Ensemble, a new music ensemble consisting of eight
composer/performers that continues to this day.
Other improvising groups that Alex has performed and recorded
with include the
Knotty Ensemble (acoustic guitar, bass, viola
and cell),
Confluence (two cellos and guitar),
Iron and the Albatross (trumpet, pump organ, glockenspiel, piano, bass, drums, violins, and the cello), and the Orfeo String Quartet
(2 violins, viola, and cello).
Past Circus performances include a season with
San Francisco's
Pickle Family Circus, performances with
Circo Zero,
Girl
Circus,
Geoff Hoyle,
Broadway Studios Cabaret, and the
New
Old Time Chautauqua with the
Flying Karamozov Brothers. Alex
directed an aerial fabric act with his wife, Amanda Starr,
which led to many vaudeville performances, including a show
they produced and directed, the
Starr Spectacular. Alex
composed the music for this two hour event which featured performances by
Tom Noddy,
Frank Olivier, and
Geoff Hoyle.
