ENSEMBLES

Past orchestral performances include sectional positions with the Wichita Symphony, the Oregon Mozart Players, the Haddonfield Symphony, and the Golden Gate Opera Orchestra, as well as principal positions with the University of Oregon Symphony, the Wichita State University Symphony, the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, the Wichita Youth Symphonies, and the Kansas State Orchestra.
 
Past modern dance performances include twelve productions with Lizz Roman and Dancers, which featured original music by Alex Kelly and Clyde Sheets and a six-week tour with the Margaret Jenkins Dance Co., playing the music of Paul Dresher.  Other dance performances with original music by Alex includes the with Ramon Raymos’s Alayo Dance Co, Kara Davis, Folowole, and others.  Alex Kelly, Ben Kessler, and Jeff Mooney were nominated for an Izzy Award for composing the soundtrack to Sean Dorsey’s Bullied.

Past Circus performances include a season with San Francisco's Pickle Family Circus, and the New Old Time Chautauqua with the Flying Karamozov Brothers, and ten seasons at the Oregon Country Fair. Other performances include shows with Frank Olivier, Tom Noddy, John Gilky, Geoff Hoyle, Jeff Razz, Circo Zero, Girl’s CircusBroadway Studio’s Caberet, and more.   

Past theater productions include To the Lighthouse with tony-award winning director Les Waters and music by Paul Dresher, and The Marriage of Figaro with tony-award winning Theatre de la Jeune Lune. Alex has composed and performed music for several plays, including Viaticum, by Helen Pau.
Other chamber music/improvising ensembles/bands that Alex has performed with/recorded for and/or composed for with in the past include (among others): the 100th Monkey Ensemble, the Knotty Ensemble, Confluence, the Orfeo String Quartet, the 7th Ave. String Quartet, Iron and the Albatross, The 4 Cellos, The CKW Trio, The Cooke Quintet, You Said Saturday, The Nice Guy Trio, Gojogo, The Tigerlillies, the Mark Growden Sextet, and Jazz Mafia’s Realistic Orchestra, Shotgun Wedding, and Brass, Bows, and Beats,  Sam Bass/Hannah Addio-Berry/Jessica Ivry cello ensemble, The Pickpocket Ensemble, Freddy Clarke, the Bright River Ensemble, Felonius, The New Directions Cello Festival, Cello Bazzaar, Cello Madness Congress, Pamela Z, the Paul Dresher Ensemble, Zakir Hussain, Bob Weir, Clint Black, and Joan Jeanrenaud.  Alex performed on Joan Jeanrenaud’s grammy-nominated album Strange Toys.
